How Conceal Works
Conceal is an inhibitor, not a repellent. Repellents like Citronella and DEET simply smell bad. Mosquitoes avoid them and search for a target that smells better. That’s where they bite. A mosquito with a “nose-full” of Conceal, however, has difficulty smelling anything or anyone, so they can’t home in on human targets.
Conceal Candles are many times more effective than Citronella and more convenient than DEET. In field trials* conducted in a Florida swampland using scientifically accepted protocols, people in the vicinity of the Conceal Candles experienced up to 75% less mosquito landings than people who were unprotected.

What are the benefits of Conceal?

Conceal inhibitor resulted from cooperative research between the USDA Agricultural Research Service and BioSensory, which co-own its US and International patents. This USDA test illustrates the difference between a repellent, Deet, and an inhibitor, Conceal. Mosquitoes can attack human scent placed in either of two ports in a laboratory device. One port has only human scent. The other port has human scent protected by Conceal or by Deet. Notice that 14% of mosquitoes went to the port protected by Conceal, compared to 28% for Deet. Because Conceal impairs scent-tracking, another 28% of the mosquitoes didn’t respond they never left the holding chamber when Conceal was used, compared to only 10% for Deet.
Directions for Use
For outdoor use or for use in semi-enclosed areas such as porches and patios. Place candles around the perimeter of the area to be protected on a heat-resistant surface away from flammable materials and out of the reach of children and pets. Keep wick trimmed to 1/4 inch (6 mm) and protect candle flame from drafts. For maximum protection, allow 20-30 minutes for molten pool of wax to form around the wick. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Smother flame to extinguish.
How Do Mosquitoes and Biting Insects Attack?
The mosquito possesses a number of very sophisticated physiological tools that make humans and animals easy prey for its insatiable appetite. When humans and animals exhale, they give off CO2 (carbon dioxide) and Octenol (an alcohol). Mosquitoes have sensors that can detect the presence of these two chemicals at a distance of almost 100 ft. Once the mosquito picks up the scent, they will immediately change direction and track down the intended victim. Their eyesight is poor, so they follow their nose. Mosquito ‘Cognito disperses Conceal with a battery-powered fan to inhibit the natural tracking ability of mosquitoes and biting flies. Biting insects can smell your scent long before they can see you — and if they can’t track your scent, they can’t find you.
Utilizing the patented Conceal® inhibitor, Mosquito ‘Cognito has been shown to reduce mosquito landings on people and animals by up to 80% when used as directed. Mosquito ‘Cognito disperses Conceal into the atmosphere by a quiet, battery-powered fan. The inhibitor molecules then bind to insects’ olfactory receptors, blocking their sense of smell so they cannot locate even nearby people and animals.
The device is easy to operate – pull open for on, push closed for off. With a Mosquito ‘Cognito on the edge of a deck, pool or patio, the Conceal inhibitor mixes with and helps mask the scent of people no matter which way the wind is blowing.
More than one Mosquito ‘Cognito device may be needed to protect a large group of people effectively. As a rule of thumb, start with one device for every five adults. When boating or camping, the Mosquito ‘Cognito works best inside your boat, tent or RV to keep mosquitoes out.
